The American Legion

It was 11th month, at the 11th minute of the 11th hour, of the 11th day in the year 1918 that a piece of paper was signed in a railroad car in France. That paper ended the conflict known as the Great War. It was also known as the War to End All Wars. History has since proven those names wrong. It was not the war to end all wars, and there is no such thing as a “great” war. What is left, besides the legacy of those battles fought, is the honor that is paid to the men who fought in that war, and in all wars and conflicts that our country has ever had, and ever will have.

This month we celebrate Thanksgiving. But it is also the month for Veteran’s Day. That is a day to remember not the politics of war, but the men and women who fought and died there. It is fitting that we highlight today an organization that has been an icon where veterans are concerned, the American Legion. So spend a few minutes today, and visit their web site, learn a little about who they are and what they do. In doing so, you may learn a little bit more about the sacrifices that have been made in the past, to help make our country a true “land of the free, and home of the brave”.
